My name is Leanne Bertino and I founded the Carmel Pet Sitter back in 2007. This is my thirteenth year of pet sitting. It has been a fun and rewarding career choice. I am an avid dog trainer having taken dozens of courses with my dogs including agility, rally, obedience and water work. I enjoy reading up on pets and dog training and behavior. When not working I enjoy yoga and have practiced regularly for 7+ years. I’m a book reader and enjoy listening to Classic Rock or whatever’s on the radio. I’ve been caught singing with dogs and am not the least embarrassed about it.
People sometimes think- mistakenly- that I do my job by rote. Nothing is further from the truth. I cannot help but love the pets I’m trusted to care for. You can’t do this job without a heart, or if you do then you really should be doing something else!
Currently I live in Westfield. My dog Spice passed away in February 2021. She was almost 15 years old and a 5 year cancer survivor. She was the best dog I ever had and I miss her terribly. I’m happy to share my extra love with my client’s dogs until my next awesome dog comes my way. Rest In Peace my baby girl. The rest of her pack Ivy (Standard Poodle) and Merlin (mixed breed) have been waiting for her at the Rainbow Bridge. No doubt they’re having a blast.

My cat Thor turned four in May 2021. I’ve had him since he was a kitten and he provided excellent company to my old dog. He’s quite smart and lots of fun! He enjoys bird watching, running through his tunnel and sleeping on my lap. He is a 2017 graduate of the Indianapolis Humane Society School of Hard Knocks. (I made that last sentence up!)

In case you’re wondering, I worked in a corporate position for over twenty years. Leaving that behind is something I will never regret. I also have two college degrees including a B.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and a Master’s from Ball State. I graduated summa cum laude from Stony Brook and am a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I was born in NYC and raised on Long Island, where my Pop still lives. Oy vey, the traffic there!
